This unit is a midi data processing device which serves primarily as a midi patch bay. It has one merge function in addition to many midi setup or control features.

The feaure I was seeking was "rechannelize". I have a few budget mini controllers which transmit on only channel 1. The MX-8 can rechannelize unlike the Yamaha MCS2.

This seems to be the unit to seek via ebay for circa $75-100. Those who shun computer assistance and prefer hardware sequencers and dedicated sound modules will find this unit very useful
