General Features : 10
I perform on the piano keyboard accordion. . .41 piano keys for the right hand, 120 Buttons on the left hand side. It also is available as a Chromatic button accordion (buttons on both right and left hand sides. Piano keys are synth action, however, the bellows provide nuance for accents, etc on both hands through PBM (personal behavior modeling). There is also some aftertouch sound variation on some voice patches. There are 40 accordion sound sets available with 14 variations in each set. In addition, there are 21 orchestral instrument sounds for the right hand. The left hand can supply the traditional (boring) oom-pah Bass and chord tones that accoustic accordions have provided forever...press three tabs simultaneously and you now have access to 7 different Real bass sounds.. .Press 3 other tabs simultaneously and you have access to 7 different chord quality sounds. . .The left hand has now become interesting and essential to the overall performance. Play polkas, etc as well as delicate Debussy pieces with this wonderful instrument.

Additional Controls : 8
Chorus, Delay & reverb are available on 3 separate knobs. There are no pitch bend/or modulation wheels, no xypad, ribbon controller, drum pads, breath controler input. It's an Accordion!!! There is a footboard for changing sets and to sustain. It is connected to the accordion by a 19 pin cable. You can select split keyboard functions.

Connectivity : 6
A midi cable can be used to connect the footboard to a sound module.
I am not a computer person. . .I do not know if there is any connectivity between the accordion and a computer. . I do not care if there is a connectivity to a computer. There is not a usb port on the accordion or the footboard. You will also need to supply a case for the accordion and the footboard. Roland makes a case that houses both units but I find the accordion heavy by itself.(25 lbs)

Additional features : 6
A very useful device is the transposition component. .especially when working with vocalists. I have rarely used the keyboard splits and layering options.(personal preference) There is no card port on the accordion or footboard. No bundled softward and no included editor/librarian software. I am gratified that when I take this instrument on the gig that it is not connected to a rack of effects or a computer, that the sounds coming from the instrument are a result of the practice and performance that I have contributed.

Overall Rating : 10
This instrument has performed beautifully for me in the real world. I have played the instrument since January 2006 and people constantly comment what a beautiful sounding instrument it is. My performance confidence has increased and so has the number of solo performances. If my Roland FR-7 was destroyed or stolen, I would buy it again...maybe even an FR-2 or 3 because they are lighter and have many new and nice features added in the past year. I do wish it had a sound card port. I would and have recommended this instrument to other musicians.
