Many of the descriptions say it's a 2-way speaker, but it's actually a 3-way. The top 15" runs higher frequencys, and the low 15" run lower. Like most JBL it's built very tough.

The speakers are 500 watts with a 2000 watt peak. We usually run our amps in bridge mode and they sound great. Probably one of the only things I don't like about the speakers are the parrallel inputs. They have one speakon and one 1/4" input in the back. It would be nicer to have two of both so you don't have to change cables types, but really isn't that big of a deal.

Sound quality is great! Loud and Clear. We run them with the JRX18S subwoofer and a crossover to keep the vocals in the mains. Everything sounds awesome. No humming, distortion or fuzz of any kind.

I was surprised at how light they are. Easy to pack around. Only takes one guy to move them. Not mountable, but you don't really need to mount them. Built tough. Not rating 10 because of the 2 inputs in the back.

Perform great. We've never had to push these speakers. We mainly play for venues around 300 people. Great value. Very reliable. I would definatley buy again, hopefully I never need to.

This is designed as a FOH main speaker that is a quasi-3 way. It has 2 15" drivers and a high frequency compression driver. The bottom 15 has a built in crossover and only puts out lows, acting as a sort of sub. The upper 15 handles mids and lows. Carpet covered, and weighs in at a hefty 94 lbs each.

This is a passive speaker, that has both 1/4" and Speakon connectors. It is about 43" inches tall and weighs 94lbs. It is not pole mountable. It handles 500 watts RMS and peaks at an impressive 2000, it acts like a much more powerful speaker though. We have been using it in our live setup for a while now. We originally looked at a host of different dual 15 mains from all brands and found only 1 that we liked more, that was from Yamaha but the size was just too large. Compared to the MPro I actually like the JRX more, the MPro was too muddy and lacking any sort of articualtion on the highs. The SRX while of course very nice just did not sound better enough to justify the 4 times in price. The new MRX line was very interesting, and I haven't had a chance to really sample it sonically, but its size was also a consideration being 6 inches taller it meant there was no chance to get it in the backseat of a car, which BTW the JRX can do. I was looking for a speaker that first could handle more power and play louder, but I also wanted a solid overall balanced sound, but could also put out a decent low end on it's own without subs, for when we play venues that doesn't require them. The cabinet I believe is made from MDF and it is front ported. It is carpeted with plastic feet and corners and a mid grade metal grill. Don't let the low price fool you, not only does it sound and perform really well, but it is built solid. We unfortunatley had one fall off a subwoofer flat onto it's face, not even a scratch threw the cable back in and it has worked flawlessly since. They are heavy which can be either a positive or negative depending on your application. Frequency range is 45-12k at 3db and 35-16k at -10. They are 4 Ohms. Based on the specs for the price I give it a 9.

These things sound great. We could go on and on with technical specs, but for the price you would be hard pressed to find a speaker that competes. I am not saying there aren't any, but they are few and far between. The speaker has a very balanced sound, no particular frequencies pop out, it doesn't everything well. By itself without a sub it does 95% of the job. Unless you're really looking for the shake your chest lows all the time this will handle everything else well. I like the crispness of the high end, it gets everything up there but isn't piercing. THe MPros as I mentioned before are really lacking in that dept. I would say the JRX sound much closer to the SRX than anything else JBL has (MRX aside as I haven't heard them enough) The coverage area is decent, but not optimal. If you can spread them a decent distance apart they cover very well, but if you're in narrow setup into a larger room they aren't as great as I would like. The new Mackie spread design is great if coverage is a major concern. I have not heard any nociticalble distortion at any levels. We use a Crown XTI2000 and the controls are set around 3 o'clock. To give a brief list of our current PA setup is looks like this...
Mackie Onyx 2480 Board
DBX Driverack PA
BBE 482
Crown XTI2000 - Mains
Crown XTI4000 - Lows
The only thing I would love to added to these speakers to really make them great would be biampable design. Again the sound overall is very pleasing with nothing negative to report.

The hardware is all plastic with hybrid plastic metal handles. The feet should certainly have been rubber (I don't know what they we were thinking, they couldn't have saved more than 5 cents on that). They are not pole mountable and must be raised to optimal level either on a support or sub. Overall, I think JBL might have inadvertantly made their MPro line extinct with these (although that could have been their intention) with the MPro gone and the MRX coming in they have left quite a price gap. I'm afraid most people won't appreciate the added offerings of the MRX to justify double the price.

Overall I'm extremely happy with these speakers. I sometimes would like to crank a little more into them, and they might be able to take it, but most of the people in the crowd probably wouldn't want them any louder anyway. I totally recommend them to anyone looking for a good overall speaker and especially for those looking for a larger system at a great value. If they were broken or stolen I would try two things, take a serious look at the MRX (if I loved them I'd go that route) or try to find a great used deal on some SRX, if I couldn't do that I would totally go for these again. We use EAW subs, and I love their products, but to get something comparable to these would cost SRX type prices at least.
