Reviewer Background :
I've been making music for 25 years. I play keyboards but also sing. I just bought the latest version of Broomstick Bass. I am running it as a VST instrument through Sonar Cakewalk Home Studio and use it mainly for Rock/Pop. Own a PC with Windows XP. Soundcard is EMU 0404. Monitors Rockit KRK 5.

Ease of Use : 10
Interface is easy to use. No problems installing it. It worked right away.

Sounds/Sound Quality : 8
I've been using mainly the electric basses. They are really good and authentic. Go and check out the review in Sound On Sound (SOS). Only drawback (which SOS did not mention) is the omission of vibrato samples and the relatively short up and down slides. Another limitation is that the individual basses do not contain slaps or pulls. Except for the slides, there are ways to work around these issues. Vibrato can be done with the pitch wheel and if you want slaps and pulls you need to load the Funk Bass from BB into your DAW in addition to the fingered version. As far as the length or slides is concerned, you need to find those somewhere else. I use the samples on Roland's Bass and Drum card for instance.

Overall Rating : 10
Despite the drawbacks mentioned above, this plug-in is well worth the price. I mean, come on, it's just $70, as opposed to Spectrasonics' Trilogy for $279. And again, the sound is just great. Much better than anything that comes from my Roland XV 3080 or Yamaha S90es. Also, it's right in your face (probably due to the compressor this plug in comes with). If you are, like me, on a shoestring budget, go ahead and buy it.
