Reviewer Background :
I've been playing Keys for about 6 years and bass now for 2. Just started recording about a year or so ago, using Pro Tools and the Digi 002 on a MacBook. For monitoring I use Yamaha MSP5s, which is the typical setup with which I use Melodyne for my vocal and instrument tuning.

Ease of Use : 7
Melodyne for me was a bit of a pain to get started with. I upgraded to Melodyne plugin from Melodyne Essential, which comes with Pro Tools. It took me about an hour or so to get the licensing info figured out (I have heard a few people mention similar problems, as their site is somewhate confusing), and then got stuck in the registration process. As far as I know, Celemony doesn't have any US based technical support, so email was the most viable option. When I contacted their support center in Germany, I received a quick, friendly reply (I heard back in about two hours), and solved the problem. As far as the software itself goes, I don't think it is really intuitive, but fortunately the manual was fairly detailed and well written, so after a quick read I was able to use the software easily.

Sounds/Sound Quality : 9
(9 out of 10) In my opinion, Melodyne sounds remarkly good. It sounds much more natural to me than other tuning softwares I have used (Antares Auto-Tune 5 and WavesTune), plus has other features such as manual pitch drag and vibrato adjusting, in addition to vocal quantization, making it a superb piece of software. The only reason I would mark it down is because its auto pitch correction is not as good as the others I have used.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall Melodyne is a wonderful piece of software. As far as teh computer side of things go, it is a bit more taxing than most of the plugins I use, although it has never crashed on me. I chose this one because it is a bit cheaper than similar products and has a bit more overall functionality. If you always have time to track and comp the best performance, and just need something to touch up the pitch a bit, go ahead and stick with Antares. But, if you want the most creative control possible in your tuning software, I would recommend Melodyne without thinking twice. There's no substitute for the perfect take, but Melodyne will help you get closer to it.

I've been making music for about 5 years now. Went to school for it and the whole 9. Blah, blah. I know little about this music stuff. So, I went out and bought a copy of Celmony's Melodyne Studio 3 (SkitScat music... check them out on ebay!!) and I think it's wonderful. I've never seen anything like this before. Celemony managed to create a software that allows me to actually View & Edit audio files as if they were Midi data. Don't believe me? Ok then. I'm just saying that if you're looking for the perfect audio (vocal, pitch-n-time, strecthing, transpostition, etc.) editing tool. This is it. I haven't found a piece of sofware that actually met my needs as much as this one did since... Halo, Madden Football, or Ghost Recon (Xbox & Xbox 360 systems)...LOL!! Be cool. Peace----Marvelous, The F.A.R.M. Inc.

Kinda difficult to use initially.

Sounds/Sound Quality : 9
Sounds really good considering what it's used for. SOunds as best as it can possibly sound. How great can an audio file actually sound after changing the pitch, time, or key? GReat!!

Overall Rating : 7
Well worth the money. Didn't have the cash to spend but, it was worth it. Could've been a bit cheaper though.
