The copy protection is OK. Comes with it's own pre-loaded iLok. Only issue on my system is that I already had one, so I had to transfer the license to my first iLok. No big deal thanks to the iLok utilities.
UI is quite good. Too much eye candy for my tastes. The buttons have fairly obvious functions AND they all seem to work!
Of course, the engine is really UVIengine by UltimateSoundBank (not MOTU). This is the latest version and it seems to be solid.

Whoa! Nice sounds. Lots of them. Instruments, loops and phrases. Excellent sampling. Versatile. Up to 64 channels of any sort of sound or loop.
The variety and quality of the sounds is very good. It's a great value as well. I almost shelled out much more for "RA". Heard it on a friend's system and decided against it. Boy am I glad I saved my money for Ethno. Well worth what I paid and I've only been using it for the start-up of one project so far!

There may be some minor bugs or quirks. Once I figured out that the loops need to be set to "Immediate" instead of "Next Bar" (as I do with Stylus RMX), most of the issues went away for me. I have a case open with MOTU for a volume problem (loops vary in volume for no apparent reason), so I may have feedback on their support...
However, overall, it's an excellent instrument with great quality and useability.
