Reviewer Background :
I've been a musician, both professional and amateur for about 20 years. I am a piano/keyboard player and am heavily into midi and now virtual instruments. I have all 3 Spectrasonics modules, Trilogy, Atmosphere and Stylus.
I am currently writing this review for Trilogy, Total Bass Module version 1.2.1 AU for Mac.
I use MOTU Digital Performer 4 as my host.
I am the multi-media director for a creative marketing firm and do a lot of corporate soundtracks for video and flash presentations.
I am using a Mac Dual G5 running OS X.
Currently monitoring through Paradigm passive monitors and a Crown amp.

Ease of Use : 8
First of all I'd like to debunk the propaganda being put forth by the only other reviewer of this product. Installation, while lengthy, was not difficult or problematic. In addition, the sounds are fantastic and more than half are real instrument sounds, not synth.
The manual is adequate although more technique tips should be included.

Sounds/Sound Quality : 10
The acoustic basses are unbelievable, even down to the sound of the fingers on the strings. All the electric basses are great as well, especially the Jaco fretless collection. And, yes, there are plenty of synth basses as well which are very true to their hardware counterparts.
Mixing these sounds is a joy. Much of the time they sit down in the mix without much tweaking and since they are virtual, you can put any effect on them in a snap. I don't fiddle too much with the presets since the samples are so excellent. They have just about every nuance built in to their samples as well. Most are multisample for different timbres or effects (hammer-ons, slides, etc.) with different velocity. Operation is stereo.

Overall Rating : 9
Not only is is worth the price, but really worth more.
After listening to the mp3 examples, I knew this was it.
I think the best part is the sounds themselves. Nothing really to hate.
Best part is the True Staccato feature.
Wish it were truely multitimbral.

Reviewer Background :
I'm a rock/fusion/metal/neo-classical guitar player. I write and arrange on my Mac G5 Dual 2ghz, using Cubase SX.

I need a good bass library with fretless, upright acoustic bass samples (for jazz-blues) and picked bass (for rock stuff).

Ease of Use : 1
I tried to return because I was unable to install it! They have an OS 9 installer. They OS X installation procedure is complicated. After 3 days and many phone calls and emails to tech support, I was finally able to install and register the product.

Loading the sounds is very easy.

Sounds/Sound Quality : No Opinion
None of the sounds are what I want. I'm looking for a realistic sound. This instrument is geared more towards synth-type basses with infinite sustain and composite sounds. None of the sounds sound like a real bass player.

Overall Rating : 1
Definitely not worth the price. I would not want it even for free.

It is impossible to know the installation process without first trying it out. It is impossible to know how it really sounds without trying it out.
