Reviewer Background :
I'm making music since 1997 when I stole my first computer, MMX200 PC. Now I work on 2.0GHz PC with Yamaha DS2616+SW1000XG soundcards. From there music goes to Hafler amp and Dynaudio BM6 monitors. I'm a guitarist but I also use keyboards and program MIDI. Software version of Trilogy is 1.0. I use it as an VST instrument inside Cubase.

Ease of Use : 10
Let's begin. Installing went easy. It last a bit longer because you need to put 3GB library on your hd. After that you need to register for unlock key number.
It's in the VST instruments folder. You open it and it's ready to play. Trilogy, as you now, is a Bass instrument. Or is it even something more than that? Read on...
There're 3 Banks with hundreds of presets: Accoustic, Electric and Synth. Interface is clear and fine to work with. It's large enough on my 1280-1024 screen. I like that a lot.
All knobs and sliders are MIDI controllable. I start tweaking my Korg Z1's knobs without previous adjustments and half off them had matching CC numbers. You can see how Trilogy's knobs are moving as you move real ones. Beautiful! Synth patches became live. I was surprized how good reacts on controls like filters, envelopes and many others. Not only it has some beautiful bass patches but it has brainmelting pads.
Accoustic bass is best I've heard. You have bunch of patches: Full Range, Staccato, Harmonics, Slides and so on.

Sounds/Sound Quality : 9
Polyphony and multi-timrality is limited only with your computer power. Some patches are 200MB large so I guess you need a lot of Ram. I have 512. It plays without any problems with it. Saving your own patches is unlimited.
I got Trilogy recently so I will rate only presets. I did have some time to tweak Synth patches a little and they reacted wonderful. You can make some superb pads. They sound analog and clean.
Patches are divided in 3 Banks:
1. Accoustic Bass - Great! Best I've ever heard. Sound like a real thing. They are spacious, clean, fat, live. You get all arsenal of accoustic sounds variations. Slide, staccato, squeaks, sustain, thumps, noises and a lot more. Truly briliant.
2. Electric Bass - Only disappointment. Maybe they just not my type. They are too jazzy. I was looking for some Yo La Tengo-Mogwai bass. Will see how they react on tweaking.
3. Synth Bass - This was surprise. I bought Trilogy primarily for accoustic and electric bass. I have Korg Z1 and Yamaha PLG150AN for synth parts. They just blew me away. Most patches are boring and muddy. The rest are great. It plays like any top analog synth. It's essential that you have some kind of MIDI controller for tweaking. I use Korg Z1's knobs and Kenton Control Freak for that.

Overall Rating : 10
It's a great instrument. Hundreds of patches in 3GB core library. I'll need a few weeks just to feel them all. My first Spectrasonics. It's all true what they say. Best Accoustic Bass I've heard.
It plays like any other synth. Works great as VST instrument. MIDI controllable.
This is great price for such a synth if you already have MIDI controller for it. In fact it's cheap in relation with what you are getting. Softsynth are becoming best value. God save the NI!
