immediate 'useability ' factor of these sounds..i recommend getting all

..its like having a real drummer present trying different styles for your

I've been making music now for about 15 years. My main genre is hard rock/metal/industrial metal.

I use this the betamonkey drum loops with Sonar 3 and Sonar 4, and even ACID. It integrates with any audio program because of the wav format.

I've been working with the library for over 2 years now.

I primarily listen with stuidio monitors AND headphones

Overall Rating : 10
This product is a tremendous value for the money. All loops are acidized in wav format, and easily integrate into any audio editing program. There is no better bang for the buck if you need acoustic drum loops. The tracks are clean, and recorded is excellent quality. Each CD comes with hundreds of drum loops, in various tempos. The tracks are grouped together by tempo and style, which makes it even more easier to get what you need out of the disc. Aside of various patterns, you also get tons of fills as well, which really help the mix.

The quality of these loops is unmatched. I have official ACID CDs that cost much more than betamonkey CD's, and they just don't compare!!!

For the last 26 years I have been playing guitar (since I was 14). Home recording featured prominently early on as well. In the beginning I used two tape recorders for over dubbing. Now that I'm 40 and have my own business, I can afford way better equipment. And yet I'm still a cheapskate, therefore I have a modest musical arsenal.

I prefer hardware to PC for recording my tunes. So I use a Tascam digital 8 track for real time creations. For drums I use Beta-Monkey loops, which I piece together in ACID, and then stereo line out from my laptop to Tascam. I use Edirol powered digital monitors which are connected via Edirol USB adapter plugged into said laptop. The monitors are also connected to the Tascam via monitor out.

Bottom line: It's nice to have a hissless environment in my life.

These loops are too good to be so cheap. Judging by their email messages, they seem like a nice bunch of people. Personally, I think they are the industry's best kept secret. When a company gets too big they loose their "Mom & Pop" charm. I hope the "Corporate Monster" doesn't worm it's way in and take over some day.

As far as the product itself. So far I have been able to match what is on these dics to what is in my imagination. They have included so many variations that if you can't use what's there then get a real drummer and do it yourself. However, adjustments can be made. (Either to the loops or to my ideas.) Anyway, why be stubborn about a track that hardly anyone will hear? Let's face it, very few people care about the amount of tom or snare shots in a given phrase. It's not that important. What is important is being able to express one's music in a comfortable, affordable way. Beta-Monkey loops do that.

As far as any criticisms go, perhaps there are one or two tracks that are not quite perfectly timed. Especially when attempting to sync them up with a sequencer. They are, after all, played by a human. Even then I've been able to make it work with lots of stops & starts and punch-ins. Also, there are random, yet infrequent, popping sounds which someone else may be able to explain. I sure can't.

In summary, if you can't play drums or afford a set or live in a place where they just don't fit in. This is your best bet. After dealing with drum sequencers and hearing people with trained ears always remark how the drums in my songs are not real. I don't get that remark anymore. Now all they have to pick on is my voice and music. Thank you Beta-Monkey.

Professional guitarist for 23 years. Diverse in all styles - bluegrass, rock, fusion, hip-hop, soul etc.
Cubase SX, Live 3.03, Reason 2.5.
I've been using the libraries since August 2003. I've been listening to them on Event Electronics Powered Monitors through a Mackie 1604 board.

Overall Rating : 10
Worth the price, sounds are perfect. The included one-hit library is perfect for Redrum in Reason 2.5, as well as building drum loops in Cubase.

The playing is perfect. When used in Live 3.03, you can select specific parts of the loops for fx processing. Therefore making even more effective use with stereo loops.
