PowerFX The Funk Master

I'm a bassist/composer from Chicago, working the fahnk/dub pool, as well as stripped down HH. Long time convert to softsamplers/manipulators, using Acid/Reason/Live etc, as well as the new SpectraSonics RMX. All of which apply here..read on. Also Bram de Jongs fantastic vst plugs..supatrigga being a favorite.

We use Macs/PC's listen through B&W 602's, as well as a 70's "boombox" the size of a Corolla, and even Genelecs when they aren't being pawned.

I bought this as soon as it was released, as I think Jab O Starks, Henry Gibson and Pistol Allen should be paid for what they do/did..an interesting concept, huh?

Where to start...this is a multi..has rex2's/reason refills/redrum kits/acid files and wavs. Lot's of construction kits, redrum kits for Reason, a Funkmaster refill too, loaded up with samples that "belong" together for a quick Fahnk throwdown..basses (played by the incomparable Jair Rohm Wells, guitars by Chuck Anthony- and the triumvarite of Jabo, Pistol and Henry playing realtime JAMES BROWN fahnk.

So..you do know that these 3 are the men (among others) who did the original thang, back in the day, right? And that they have been sampled to death over the course of HH History..so this cd is..and it's a brilliant idea..these men playing it now, applying their considerable skills and chops to give you a more contemporary format..it's the real Fahnk, just easier to work with.

Mess it up, go ahead, downsample it, put vinyl noise on it..but this is the real stuff.

There are a lot of reviews of this cd on the net..google some for the specifics..but here's how I am using it, as of 12/04.

With the new Stylus RMX's "Chaos Designer..which will let you import REX files and use them as though they belonged there in the 1st place..the potential of this CD is..and I mean it..limitless. I've converted it and am using it as a libary; Jair Rohm's bass lines mixed with jabo's loops put thru the Chaos Designer, turn this into a Fahnk Creation Machine bar none..Real time improvisation of old school fahnk riddims..it doesn't get any better than this.

I still look for old fahnk and dub plates..I still sample them, an dchop them ...but this disk, coupled with the Stylus RMX, has taken Z Fahnk way fahwaad march. Tams off to Bil Bryant and PowerFX for this cd. You will NOT be disappointed.
