Reviewer Background
:
Been making music for like 5 years already, mostly melodic stuff with lots of electronic sounds... not 'real' music but who cares. I've used your basic sound editor (Cool Edit Pro v2) with this particular library, because like, its WAV and all. Oh and primary listening equipment was like, good studio headphones.

Allright, the X-Static Goldmine 1 is most probably world's most used sample cd, probably because it offers such a HUGE database of loops and individual sounds. Its all very easy to use: each loop directory contains several loops, individual sounds they're made of, and a little demo track, which, I think, is really inspiring, because you can usually tell if you need sounds from this particular directory by simply listening to the demo track. Gorgeous.
There's a separate directory that's just filled with lots of loops, and a separate directory with individual drums and individual sounds (pads, fx, etc). While the drums are really nice (that is, if you can find time to browse through them all!), other sounds don't really shine, they're often crippled in this or other way - yet can be used with some tinkering. There's a lot of soundfx sounds there, too, and its this kind of fx that doesn't sound overused or something, which is funny, because so many people were using this CD in the past.. Duh.
Anyways, if you're in for some danceable loops and crisp sounds to go along with those loops, get X-Static Goldmine 1, its just the thing you want, and its also really inspiring. However, do NOT buy it if you want to get a lot of melodic stuff like chords, pads, leads etc..
Those are here allright, but they're not too good to be used extensively.
