Kevlar wood in a 16 ply shell. Throw off is the newer OCDP "Trick" throw-off, very smooth and very well designed.
Size of the drum is a 6x14, with the standard hoops from OCDP. Came in a gloss black finish (tier 1 finishes from OCDP, the cheapest). Of course you can get an OCDP drum in ANY color you want, and when I say any, I mean literally ANY. They are the premier drum designers for customization, bar none.
The tuning range is pretty limited, you generally want it to be pretty tight sounding. Anything going for a much deeper sound of snare will result in lots of buzz, however; at the higher range (80 psi bottom 82 psi top IIRC) the snare really sings.
No frilly stuff on this snare, no off-set lugs or die-cast colored hoops. Just a solid, fantastic sounding snare.

For what it is designed for, a tight and loud snare that dissipates quickly, it really performs the job. While it does not cater too much to lower pitches for playing, you should know this from hearing any recordings featuring a vented snare, or simply from looking at it. It's not designed to be the most versatile snare in the world, it's designed to play like an OCDP vented snare.
The volume/attack is quite big and full bodied, you will hear literally EVERY ghost-note and back-beat note played on the snare with full clarity and sound like you were playing them at a fortisimo level.
The vents ARE the additional muffling. As for blending with the rest of my kit, aside from cosmetically, you'd never be able to tell the snare didn't fit. I had been using my kit's (sonor 3007 LE) snare, since I figured the OCDP would be too loud to record with over the set. However; after the head started going bad on the Sonor snare, I threw the OC snare back into the mix, and without touching the mic level or mic positioning, it sang like a canary.

It stays in tune very well and the only problems you should encounter is the snare strainer (from the factory) is weak in comparison to the amount of tension needed by each lug (this is easily fixed by purchasing some thicker fabric at your local fabric store, ribbon to be exact) or mis-tensioned lugs from not getting each one properly tensioned while tuning it up.
9/10 Because the snare strainer ribbon WILL need to be replaced, very soon after you purchase it.

If you're looking for this kind of snare sound, very loud, cracky, to the point, and very defined ghost-notes (and overall snare tone); then this is the ticket for you. While I am biased, as I never have played any other vented snares, (Spaun makes them now and I believe Pork Pie started to)this is truly a good buy. However, don't buy directly from OCDP unless you want to overpay a lot.
